Senator Takubo moved to amend the bill by striking out everything after the enacting clause and inserting in lieu thereof the following:


That the Code of West Virginia, 1931, as amended, be amended by adding thereto  a new section,   designated  §5-3-6, to read as follows:

ARTICLE  3. ATTORNEY GENERAL.

§5-3-6.  Authorizing Attorney General’s investigators to carry firearms; requirements.

Notwithstanding any provision of this code to the contrary, the Attorney General may authorize investigators employed by the Office of the Attorney General to carry a handgun in the course of performing his or her official duties if the investigator has first successfully completed an initial firearms training course equivalent to that provided to officers attending the entry level law-enforcement certification course provided at the West Virginia State Police Academy, and thereafter, successfully completes an annual firearms qualification course equivalent to that required of certified law-enforcement officers as established by legislative rule.
